Catwalk Oops and a Career in Fashion

Most fashion models get paid a lot of money to strut their stuff on the catwalk, but that’s not what it’s all about. When they are modeling fashion, they are showing off the items of clothes they are wearing. A mistake is known as catwalk oops by the critics. They normally wear fashion designer clothing and they will show off what best suits them.

When you are learning to become a fashion model, you have to start early and create a stunning walk on the catwalk. You cannot just walk like you would if you are casually walking down the street, it has to be professional and it is sometimes not all that easy to learn.

There is not a specific way everyone does the walk as everyone’s bodies are shaped differently, if you do not want a catwalk oops experience here are just a few tips that you could follow to help you perfect your walk:

1. The steps you take should not be any bigger than the length of your foot.

2. Keep your body inline with your back, keep your back straight and keep your body straight, no slouching!

3. Balance out your weight on each foot when you walk, don’t step heavier on one foot than the other, try keeping all your weight on the balls of your feet.

4. Try and keep your toes pointed straight in front of you or have them slightly outward.

5. Pretend there is a line that you have to stay on, walk with one foot directly in front of the other at all times.

6. Try to keep your legs swinging forward with each step and don’t move your hips from side to side too much, just slightly will do.

7. Always keep your knees bent, but not so much that it’s noticeable, just so that you can jump off them for a smoother walk and it will look natural when you glide across the catwalk.

8. Your arms should move the same as your legs do, this will help you to balance and it will also look professional. When your left foot is forward, have your left arm forward, almost mimicking the movement of your leg, and the other way around.

9. Don’t look stiff! This is important, your shoulders should be loose and your arms should flow freely at your sides.

As they say, practice makes perfect, so what do you have to do if you want to perfect your walk on the catwalk? Practice! Find an area that will allow you to take at least six steps freely. Then put down string or draw a straight line with chalk on the floor. Important important important, make sure the line is straight!

If you can, do this in front of a full length mirror so you can watch yourself as you might be able to point out your own mistakes. You can even dress up for the occasion and pretend there are people there watching you. Or …

Science is Admitting When You Are Wrong

Have you ever noticed that folks get amnesia; it includes you and me,

when we have to say, the results are in, and I was wrong.

Neuroscientists go against type (Homo sapiens), and immediately publish

to the world when their research indicates they are on the wrong side

of the issue.

It does not matter how ancient and venerated the principle, these guys

find the biggest and baddest Journal and go public with the new findings faulting

their previous thinking.

It occurred recently for the treatment for ulcers, the two Australians got the Nobel. They were wrong about neurogenesis, growth of new brain cells, and neuroplasticity, changes in the function and structure of the brain.

Even the Federal Drug Administration admitted in 2007 some of their drug approvals were killing (heart attacks) the users.

For about three centuries the pro forma principle behind human decision-making, according to the international scientific community, was labeled cognitive, based on a reasoning Cost-Benefit-Analysis.

Philosophers and scientists agreed it separated us from other species, and played out in the advancements of western civilization. We think and act, and are not the puppets of our emotions and instincts.

Decision-Making

Professors Antonio and Hanna Damasio, in the year 2,000, while at the University of Iowa College of Medicine, published an article called Emotion, Decision Making and

the Orbitofrontal cortex.

They opposed the iconic vision of Homo sapiens as the embodiment of logic, reason and analysis, by what they called the Somatic Market Hypothesis. It is a fancy name

for adding your right-brain emotions and feelings to your left-brain reasoning skills.

The Damasios go on to propose emotions are represented by changes in your body state. For the geniuses: specifically two areas in your brain; your somatosensory cortex and your orbitofrontal cortex.

Who Cares

First, emotions and instincts occur through your right brain, and are at a non-conscious level (no awareness).

Second, your mental imagery is deeply involved in decision-making. When you

are beset by negative images, you decide differently than when your mental movies

are positive and offer successful reinforcement. Remember, images precede your

feelings and emotions, and result in different behaviors. Think about it.

One more once. Your orbitofrontal cortex is the basis of your reasoning,

logic and lineal Cost-Benefit Analysis. But it is only one piece of the jigsaw

puzzle.

Amygdala

It is your Amygdala, located in the Limbic system of your brain,

and responsible for your emotions and feelings, plus your somatosensory/insula

cortices, and peripheral nervous system, that are the other critical

structures for decision making. It is left and right brain integration.

When you say humans are reasoning creatures, I think, therefore I am, (according to Decartes), you quote the science of yesterday. The Damasios were the first to focused on the relationship between emotion, decision making and working memory.

They feared not the wrath of the scientific establishment in contradicting

the undisputed knowledge of a up to three centuries of science. They chose to destroy the myth of human cognition as the core …

*ENTIRE* Marketing College Course Condensed Into A Single Article – Product Vs Offer

If you’re looking at creating a new product in the marketplace, the absolute core thing you need to appreciate is that the standard marketing mix (4 P’s) is not really going to be much of a help.

Microsoft have been selling Windows for ~$100 for decades; during that time, Linux and a number of other operating systems have also been available… for FREE. According to common marketing doctrine, this would instantly make Linux far more attractive to the end-user. Not so.

The reason for this is something called the “offer”. The offer is never really discussed in “traditional” marketing circles; it’s basically the “USP” (Unique Selling Point) of a product, but with more depth. The main issue is that “USP” (to most people) is just a feature that may be unique (for example “it has more colours than the competition” etc).

Whilst the USP is important, it’s a symptom of a successful product, NOT the cause. The cause is what the product is able to “do” that others cannot (hence why Windows is so much more successful – it’s compatible with all other systems that businesses end up using).

The RESULTS the product is able to create is the underlying “offer” that it provides to the buyer. This is best evidenced with “weight loss” products:

  • Whey Protein (product) // Rapid Muscle Growth (offer)
  • Red Tea Detox (product) // Lose 5lbs In 7 Days (offer)
  • P90X Workout Routine (product) // Beach Body in 90 Days (offer)

The way to determine the effectiveness of an “offer” is to create a guarantee.

If you’re offering a product to someone, make a guarantee based on the results the product is meant to deliver…

“We guarantee our analytics platform will give you +50% new leads in the first 60 days or your money back”…

“We guarantee our technical support solution will integrate all your digital infrastructure into a single, central, service management system which will decrease software errors by 80% in the first 5 weeks”.

The reason this works is down to a simple human trait – people never buy products, they buy results. Whilst the type of result may vary, the way it’s created and delivered is basically where the offer comes in. Product = what is it; Offer = what it does.

If you’re looking at positioning a new product, the way you do it is by creating as lucid an offer as possible. If you don’t *have* an offer, the key thing you need to do is make one. It will form the basis of your product & its effectiveness in the world.…

5 Symptoms of Damaged Penis Nerves

Damaged penile nerves are a major cause of sexual problems in men around the world. Nerves send messages of touch, heat, pain and pleasure to the brain so when the nerves in the penis become damaged, a condition called neuropathy, sensitivity may be lost and sexual function and satisfaction seriously reduced. Poor nutrition, chronic disease and infections can all cause serious nerve problems in the penis. Typically, there are 5 symptoms which are linked to penis nerve issues and any one of them can possibly mean nerve damage. Always consult a healthcare practitioner if you think you may have penile nerve dysfunction.

Typically, there are 5 symptoms which can appear and one of which can possibly mean nerve damage. If in doubt always consult a medical practitioner without delay.

Symptoms

Although the symptoms of penis nerve damage and neuropathy may differ from man to man, some symptoms are typical, and appear most often where peripheral nerves have been damaged. The 5 most common symptoms experienced by men include:

  • Pain
  • Burning
  • Tingling
  • Numbness
  • Loss of sensitivity

When the penis becomes affected by symptoms of tingling, numbness, pain, burning or loss of sensitivity, men should seek out medical attention at once. While in some cases these symptoms may be caused by physical damage to the penis, more often there is something else going on. In certain cases neuropathy is the first sign of a chronic health condition.

According to a study funded by the University of Ferrara, Italy nerve damage can become resolved without treatment in 10% of cases. However, it was also discovered that without treatment the condition worsened significantly in 30% of cases.

Should symptoms persist, speak to your doctor immediately.

Causes

Nerve fibers in any part of the body can become damaged in various ways. Poor circulation, resulting in loss of oxygen to the nerve fibers, is the primary cause of nerve damage in men. Diabetes, cardiovascular disease and obesity can also lead to insufficient peripheral circulation for nerve health. Physical damage or trauma to the nerves is the next most common cause. Accidents, injury and infection may also cause significant damage to the nerves, as can surgery.

Surgical procedures for prostate cancer in particular can cause damage to the penile nerves, resulting in male dysfunction and impotence. According to a study by Hungarian researchers, male dysfunction is the most common side effect of prostate surgery, with 59% of men able to have arousal spontaneously following the procedure

Treatment

The treatment to repair damaged penis nerves depends largely on the cause of damage. When obesity, cardiovascular disease and diabetes are under control, peripheral nerve damage should improve significantly. For more severe cases, improving circulation, antioxidant protection and nutrition of nerves is important.

Omega-3 and 6 are required for healthy nerve function. Omega-3 oils concentrate in the brain, in the form of DHA, while omega-6 is required to form the myelin sheath that protects nerve fibers in the peripheries of the body. These essential fatty acids are also capable of …

Leadership – Mechanistic and Organic Organizational Structures

Organizations are defined by McShane and Von Glinow as “groups of people who work interdependently toward some purpose” (McShane, Von Glinow, 2012, p.5). In order for these groups of people to successfully achieve their shared goals and purposes, there must be some level of strategic coordination among them that will facilitate a degree of collaboration that is both efficient and effective. This necessary coordination reflects the organizational structure, which can be broadly categorized as either mechanistic or organic (McShane, Von Glinow, 2012).

Characteristics of mechanistic and organic structures

The mechanistic structure is characterized by a narrow span of control, indicating a tall and vertical structure with lots of hierarchical layers. Authority in mechanistic structures is centralized with power maintained at the top of the organization. They typically have a high degree of formalization, with lots of standardizations, rules and procedures. The flow of communication is like the structure, vertical as opposed to horizontal. The organic structure is the exact opposite. It has a wide span of control, making the structure horizontal and flatter.

Decision making is decentralized down into the organization. Instead of standardization, organic structures are much more informal and flexible, with greater horizontal communication flow (McShane, Von Glinow, 2012).

Choosing the best organizational structure

To some degree, both types of structures are necessary in every organization. It is the internal and external environmental dynamics of the organization that determine the degree of mechanistic or organic characteristics that are most suitable at any given stage of organizational life. Most organizations begin in a very simple form, and become more complex as they grow and expand. Having a smaller number of customers, employees, and product lines, creates a relatively stable environment during which the mechanistic structure works best.

Stability is the ideal season for standardizing procedures, and establishing rules and operating policies that create a basic framework for the organization to operate. With fewer employees, the span of control can be more narrow and taller, providing closer supervision while casting employees in more specialized roles during these crucial startup periods which could last for several years. This taller hierarchical structure also facilitates centralized decision making, which is appropriate during the time when organizations are developing culture and establishing their position within their respective industries.

As organizations grow, Daft and Marcic (2011) describe two major changes that occur, which create the need for a more organic-leaning structure. The first occurrence is the result of increased customer base, product lines, and/or the number of services offered, which means the organization must hire more employees. Increased customer demands also require more specialized customer service, which means more departments. New departments will necessitate the creation of new roles for those departments. New product lines will create the need for a greater knowledge of environment and legal regulations regarding those products. All of these new challenges may require changing standardized procedures to match the new demands, which increasingly disrupts the carefully-planned routinized procedures and policies of the mechanistic structure (Daft, Marcic, 2011).

Organizational growth is …

What To Look for in Colleges for Formal Education

When considering colleges for higher education, there are a few things that one needs to look for in them. These factors may be similar in many universities, but there can be several combinations of factors that can definitely tip the scale when it comes to choosing one.

What to Consider

One of the first things that a student should consider when checking out schools for higher education is if it offers the course that student wants. Although many of the programs and courses are similar in most colleges, there are a few that offer coveted courses, which have waiting lists for prospective students and undergraduates. After finding the ones that appeal to the student, one other thing that should be considered is the rate that students graduate from it. Finishing a course from a school for higher education is equivalent to getting a higher chance of being able to find work, and being able to practice their profession effectively. Well-known universities and schools for higher education are part of what human resource officers and managers look for in a resume when there are job applicants. Apart from a good graduation rate, the prospective student should also be well prepared for the application exams and other requirements that the colleges ask for from their applicants. Another factor that should be considered when choosing a school to attend is the ratio of the faculty to student. No matter how desirable the course, teachers will not be effective in teaching if their students outnumber them to the extremes. Teachers can be considered effective if they can separate the knowledge that they have to their students and are understood well. Overcrowded classes may be difficult to handle, and teachers will not be as effective in imparting what the students want to learn.

Yet another factor that needs to be considered when choosing universities is the school's capacity to offer financial aid to the students. No matter how great a university is, if a student can not afford to go to school there, then it is useless to even think about attending it. Many colleges offer good financial aid, but there may be some fine print that needs to be read and understood well before the student should commit to it. The kind of curriculum that some colleges have to offer their students may have similar descriptions, but some are not as engaging as others. Feedback from students who have already graduated are important in this aspect. Many students may have difficulty learning from a boring teacher or a teacher who is not effective when it comes to imparting knowledge. Outside of the formal education that one gets from teachers and professors, one should also take a look at the activities that are offered by the school. There are clubs and fraternities that offer stimulating interaction with other students to enrich their lives. These are just a few of the things that need to be considered when choosing colleges. …

Unusual Conference Venues

Many companies understand the importance of conferences for their staff. Conferences are a chance to network, share ideas and to learn, but boy are they boring. Yes, your staff gets loads of new ideas and meet lots of interesting and useful people, but given the choice they would rather not attend again next year. Fortunately, the people who run conferences are starting to wake up to this fact and beginning to try to make conferences less tedious. This has led to some great new conference events being held. If you are a business about to hold an in-house conference you can learn a lot from this new trend.

So the question is 'Where can I hold a conference?'. Basically as long as they've got the license and you've got the cold hard cash, then you can hold a conference just about anywhere you like. As the legend of Kevin Costner understands 'If you build it, they will come' and yes, you can host a conference at a baseball diamond!

Museums and art galleries. Being surrounded by creative exploits really stimulates the mind. Therefore a great venue for a conference has to be a gallery or science museum. Our favorite is the Vancouver Museum of Anthropology – mingling amidst ancient totem poles is quite the experience. Another great museum venue is the Science Museum in London, that even offers a IMAX cinema or a motion theater as two of the 8 conference halls it has available.

Marinas, Aquariums and Planetariums are also great places for conferences, most have lecture theaters for the presentations, with plenty of divers during conference breaks. In some Aquariums such as the one in Barcelona you can enjoy a spectacular conference dinner completely surrounded by fish. Although sitting down to the fish course does make you pause.

Blackpool Tower – yup sounds strange but come on, it's also pretty exciting and sort of kitsch!

In the mountains. Being amid inspirational landscape opens the mind to fresh and new ideas. Check out the Fairmont Springs hotel in Banff, you are literally a step away from heaven.

Want to impress, rent a castle! You can do it for weddings and you can absolutely do it for your conference!

Observatories – enjoy a daytime conference and finish with watching the stars – there's a metaphor in there somewhere!

Middle of the Rainforest? Lots of nature retreats host conferences and events. Bali anyone?

The zoo – yes it has happened, one crazy and obviously very talented events planner held an event at a tiger exhibition.

Like we said, you get the right equipment, shelter, catering and speakers and people will come. If you have an event dream – make it happen. Your conference will be memorable and people will definitely want to come back next year. Where you hold a conference says a lot about you and your industry. Conferences are designed to stimulate people's creativity and make them come away full of ideas. An inspirational venue is everything, so think …

How to Fool a Breathalyzer

Want to trick a breath machine into a low test result? Or make sure that you’re not causing a false high reading? Not that difficult, says a law firm of San Diego DUI attorneys and lawyers: just control your breathing.

The simple fact is that these breath machines which determine guilt or innocence in DUI cases are not exactly the reliable devices that law enforcement would have us believe. There are dozens of factors that can cause false test results. An example of that unreliability is the fact that the results will vary depending upon the breathing pattern of the person being tested. This has been confirmed in a number of scientific studies.

In one, for example, a group of men drank moderate doses of alcohol and their blood-alcohol levels were then measured by gas chromatographic analysis of their breath. The breathing techniques were then varied. The results indicated that holding your breath for 30 seconds before exhaling increased the blood-alcohol level by 15.7%. Hyperventilating for 20 seconds immediately before the analyses of breath, on the other hand, decreased the level by 10.6%. Keeping the mouth closed for five minutes and using shallow nasal breathing resulted in increasing the blood-alcohol level by 7.3%, and testing after a slow, 20-second exhalation increased levels by 2%. (“How Breathing Techniques Can Influence the Results of Breath-Alcohol Analyses”, 22(4) Medical Science and the Law 275.)

Dr. Michael Hlastala, Professor of Physiology, Biophysics and Medicine at the University of Washington has gone farther and concluded:

“By far, the most overlooked error in breath testing for alcohol is the pattern of breathing… The concentration of alcohol changes considerably during the breath… The first part of the breath, after discarding the dead space, has an alcohol concentration much lower than the equivalent BAC (blood-alcohol concentration). Whereas, the last part of the breath has an alcohol concentration that is much higher than the equivalent BAC. The last part of the breath can be over 50% above the alcohol level… Thus, a breath tester reading of 0.14% taken from the last part of the breath may indicate that the blood level is only 0.09%.” 9(6) The Champion 16 (1985).

Many police officers know this. They also know that if the machine contradicts their judgement that the person they arrested is intoxicated, they won’t look good. So when they tell the arrestee to blow into the machine’s mouthpiece, they’ll yell at him, “Keep breathing! Breathe harder! Harder!” As Professor Hlastala has found, this ensures that the breath captured by the machine will be from the bottom of the lungs, near the alveolar sacs, which will be richest in alcohol. With the higher alcohol concentration, the machine will give a higher — but inaccurate — reading.…
