Advantages of Online Schools Over Campus-Based Education

Schooling is one of the most difficult parts of one's life. Education is one of the essentials and today it has become the priority for everyone at all levels. Going to conventional schools is sometimes a dream for many as they do not have access to any nearby good school which provides the best educational facilities in the particular subject desired by the students. In such cases, online schools are the best opportunity to learn and obtain a degree.

Online schools, unlike the campus schools, provide a wide range of subjects and a completely flexible environment consistent according to the timings of the students. These schools allow students to attend classes anywhere and anytime which suits them. There are no restrictions for participation in a certain manner, or just hearing the teacher. The lectures are complete and coherent which need no further explanations as teachers realize the fact about students that they do not have access to them in person, so it needs to be put-up in the most logical way. Students gain ample time to learn and understand all the concepts. The interactions and discussions forums with fellow students and teachers result in the best learning environment for students.

With increasing technological advances, researches and varying concepts related to science and the arts, it is difficult to keep the curriculum up-to-date in a conventional schooling process. Online schools have this opportunity to keep their curriculum updated as they do not follow any specific set of books and syllabuses which is fixed once and for all. The updated concepts help in improving students' views about different aspects of the subjects and their minor details. This helps in enhancing thinking process along with increasing student's knowledge to let them concentrate on critical and analytical concepts.

Online schools provide a bright opportunity to the students and professionals to gain the best up-to-date knowledge in accordance with the modern tactics and techniques helping them to understand the changing requirements of the industry that they are associated with. The interactive study method helps students improve their mental abilities and knowledge in the relevant industries, thus, making it easier for them to improve their position financially and rankly at the job place.

When Home Becomes A Technology-Based Center of Education

Making the most of computer software often combines activities that take kids away from the keyboard. The best learning takes place when kids transfer knowledge they gain elsewhere to their work at the computer and vice versa. Consequently, there are an endless number of play activities you can launch at home that can enhance the knowledge that comes from the software.

For instance, those classic productivity tools – magic marks and construction paper offer a great beginning. A good way of starting young children on the computer and reinforcing their awareness of the keyboard is to help them make a map of the keyboard on a piece of brightly colored construction paper. Outline each row of keys on the keyboard in a different color with magic marker. Then make a guessing game out of finding the keys. Let your child point out the locations of the A key and the B key. You fill in the letters that guess correctly. This works best when near the actual computer keyboard where the kids can check their answers, and you can help point out the locations. When you've filled in the key outlines, post the keyboard map near the computer and be sure to write the lowercase letters next to the capitals. Children just learning the alphabet are often confused at finding only capital letters on the PC keyboard.

Another homemade game that helps with keyboarding skills is to have the kids match letter flashcards with picture flashcards (D for duck, G for girl) and then find the letter on the keyboard. Here again, construction paper and magic marks come in handy. You can make the flashcards instead of buying them. And if you have more than one child, you can turn this into a game-kids enjoy competition. Make a chart to post on the kitchen wall or refrigerator. Use adhesive stars or stickers of animals to reward the child when he or she guesses correctly.

You also can refer storytelling software to creative writing exercises. Start with the verbal by having your child speak stories out loud and then work your way over to the keyboard. Children sometimes stall when asked to type out their thoughts so it's best to prompt them through the story by first asking them questions about it. Prompt your children to describe the scene of the activity, what they saw, what they heard, who did what. and why it was funny. Then sit with them at the keyboard as they enter the tale.

Story-writing software generally lacks a spelling checker so stand by with a dictionary to help your child look up the proper spellings of words. Dictionaries and other paper reference books provide excellent off-keyboard learning opportunities. Keep the stories short, as if they're telling the experience in a letter to Grandma-so children do not get bored.

From the story-writing programs, such as Storybook Weaver, kids can graduate to word processors, such as The Learning Company's The Children's Writing and Publishing Center, which features drawings …

Impacts of Information Technology on Society in the New Century

In the past few decades there has been a revolution in computing and communications, and all indications are that technological progress and use of information technology will continue at a rapid pace. Accompanying and supporting the dramatic increases in the power and use of new information technologies has been the declining cost of communications as a result of both technological improvements and increased competition. According to Moore’s law the processing power of microchips is doubling every 18 months. These advances present many significant opportunities but also pose major challenges. Today, innovations in information technology are having wide-ranging effects across numerous domains of society, and policy makers are acting on issues involving economic productivity, intellectual property rights, privacy protection, and affordability of and access to information. Choices made now will have long lasting consequences, and attention must be paid to their social and economic impacts.

One of the most significant outcomes of the progress of information technology is probably electronic commerce over the Internet, a new way of conducting business. Though only a few years old, it may radically alter economic activities and the social environment. Already, it affects such large sectors as communications, finance and retail trade and might expand to areas such as education and health services. It implies the seamless application of information and communication technology along the entire value chain of a business that is conducted electronically.

The impacts of information technology and electronic commerce on business models, commerce, market structure, workplace, labour market, education, private life and society as a whole.

1. Business Models, Commerce and Market Structure

One important way in which information technology is affecting work is by reducing the importance of distance. In many industries, the geographic distribution of work is changing significantly. For instance, some software firms have found that they can overcome the tight local market for software engineers by sending projects to India or other nations where the wages are much lower. Furthermore, such arrangements can take advantage of the time differences so that critical projects can be worked on nearly around the clock. Firms can outsource their manufacturing to other nations and rely on telecommunications to keep marketing, R&D, and distribution teams in close contact with the manufacturing groups. Thus the technology can enable a finer division of labour among countries, which in turn affects the relative demand for various skills in each nation. The technology enables various types of work and employment to be decoupled from one another. Firms have greater freedom to locate their economic activities, creating greater competition among regions in infrastructure, labour, capital, and other resource markets. It also opens the door for regulatory arbitrage: firms can increasingly choose which tax authority and other regulations apply.

Computers and communication technologies also promote more market-like forms of production and distribution. An infrastructure of computing and communication technology, providing 24-hour access at low cost to almost any kind of price and product information desired by buyers, will reduce the informational barriers to efficient market operation. This infrastructure …

The Big Picture of Permanent Weight Loss

Most people who read my articles and e-books know me as a science guy who likes to quote studies and apply research to everyday problems such as weight loss, bodybuilding, and other health/fitness related topics. However, sometimes you have to step back from the science and look at the big picture to help bring people back into focus, so they can see the forest for the trees, so to speak.

For most people reading this article, finding an effective diet that works most of the time must seem as complicated as nuclear physics. It’s not, but there are a bewildering number of choices for diets out there. High fat or no fat? High carbohydrate or no carbohydrate? Low protein or high protein? To make matters worse, there are a million variations and combinations to the above diet scenarios to add to the confusion. It seems endless and causes many people to throw up their hands in frustration and give up. In this article I will attempt to change all that.

There are some general guidelines, rules of thumb, and ways of viewing a diet program that will allow you to decide, once and for all, if it’s the right diet for you. You may not always like what I have to say, and you should be under no illusions this is another quick fix, “lose 100 lbs. in 20 days,” guide of some sort. However, if you are sick and tired of being confused, tired of taking the weight off only to put it back on, and tired of wondering how to take the first steps to deciding the right diet for you that will result in permanent weight loss, then this is the article that could change your life…

Does your diet pass “The Test”?

What is the number one reason diets fail long term; above all else? The number one reason is…drum roll…a lack of long term compliance. The numbers don’t lie; the vast majority of people who lose weight will regain it – and often exceed what they lost. You knew that already didn’t you?

Yet, what are you doing to avoid it? Here’s another reality check: virtually any diet you pick which follows the basic concept of “burning” more calories then you consume – the well accepted “calories in calories out” mantra – will cause you to lose weight. To some degree, they all work: Atkins-style, no carb diets, low fat high carb diets, all manner of fad diets – it simply does not matter in the short term.

If your goal is to lose some weight quickly, then pick one and follow it. I guarantee you will lose some weight. Studies generally find any of the commercial weight loss diets will get approximately the same amount of weight off after 6 months to a year. For example, a recent study found the Atkins’ Diet, Slim-Fast plan, Weight Watchers Pure Points program, and Rosemary Conley’s Eat Yourself Slim diet, were all equally effective. (1)

Easy Kids Science Fair Project Idea and Demonstration

In this science project you will learn how to create a thermometer to measure heat.

This is an instrument used in various applications to measure temperature. Doctors use them to check our body heat and we use a gauge outside to see how cold or warm the weather is. In the United States we general use Fahrenheit to measure the temperature but you can also use Celsius. With Fahrenheit 32 degrees is freezing and 0 degrees is freezing with Celsius measurements.

Here is what you will need to get:

  • Water
  • Alcohol (rubbing alcohol – DO NOT DRINK)
  • Clear plastic bottle. Use a common water bottle which is empty
  • Food color
  • Straw
  • Play dough

Instructions to make this equipment:

  1. Mix equal parts of the water and alcohol together to make about c cup. This means you will need 1/8 cup of water and 1/8 cup of alcohol. Do not make more than this amount.
  2. Pour the liquid into the plastic bottle.
  3. Put a few drops of food coloring into the bottle. This will be your measure for the thermometer so make it interesting. A normal gauge uses red as its color because it stands out so if you want it to look traditional use a red food color.
  4. Mix the color with the liquid until blended.
  5. Insert the straw through the opening but do not let it touch the bottom of the bottle. The bottom of the straw should sit in the liquid but not touch the bottom.
  6. Use the play dough or clay and put it around the mouth of the bottle securing the straw in place. You can actually wrap the dough around the lip a little to make sure it seals the bottle and holds the straw where it should be.
  7. DO NOT DRINK THIS!

Now warm your hands up by rubbing them together quickly and then place them around the bottle. Hold them on the bottle and watch the straw in your thermometer rise.

Congratulations! You just made a thermometer and it is showing the heat created by holding your hands on the bottle. With a thermometer when the solution inside gets warm it expands and pushes the mixture up the opening because it no longer fits in the bottom of your plastic container . If your mixture would get very hot the alcohol would end up spilling out the stop of the straw.

Leave your thermometer on a counter and watch it through the day and over a week time period to graph how it changes. Does it go up if the bottle is placed in the sun? What happens when it is shaded? Now this will not show the exact temperature outside but it does show change in warmth and coolness by the expansion of the mixture.

When finished with your product. Make sure to have your parents dispose of the material in a proper place and you will have to throw away the bottle. It can not be used for anything else. Enjoy this science …

What You Need to Know About a Career As a Network Engineer

Network engineering is a process in which an independent contractor or company will determine the internetworking requirements for switched networks and then develop and implement the hardware or software in order to meet the needs of the system’s users. Network engineers are the spines of the computer infrastructure for any business. The larger businesses have the ability to employ several network engineers whereas other smaller businesses often hire a consultant who is summoned only when the network has problems or needs an update.

In order to join the team of network engineers, you must have the necessary skills as well as a love of computers. As with any other career, you also need to follow certain steps in order to accomplish your goal. These are the top five requirements needed to become a network engineer.

1. While you’re in college, take another computer related field. Although it’s called network engineering you don’t need an engineering degree. You also have the option of studying a totally different major or minor than information technology (IT).

2. While in school, try and hook a job in the campus IT office. Some colleges hire students as IT support techs that work in the dorm and classroom environments. The job usually counts as part of your computer studies and it is a great opportunity to build up your resume.

3. Learn how all different types of operating systems work. This is important because there are many businesses that use different systems for their computers and company laptops as well. Make sure to familiarize yourself with all of them, otherwise you will not be the broad-based network engineer that companies will hire.

4. If you get an internship, try and pick a company that specifically has an IT department or is an IT consulting firm. There are a lot more students majoring in the computer-related industries these days. That’s why the experience you acquire needs to be a cut above the rest.

5. Communication is a key element in a networking engineer’s career. Therefore, if this is the profession that you choose, you will often be working with others that are not as tech savvy as you will be. You need to be able to speak your special lingo in laymen’s terms. If you have a problem with communication, perhaps taking a communications skills class can help you improve.

There are the chosen few that have had the ability to become engineers without a college degree. These individuals have been able to use their innate computer knowledge to gain some success in the field. However, are usually in the minority of network engineers because many who study on their own will lack other essential skills needed for this profession. Employers looking to hire a network engineer will most likely go for the one who holds the degree. They want to hire an engineer that will be able to adapt to many different scenarios and handle various issues that might arise. Network engineers that hold degrees have …
