Being Afraid Of Relationships And Overcoming Commitment Phobia

Can there be a cause and effect to this commitment anxiety?

I mean as the Course in Miracles teaches, “Without a cause there can be no effects, and yet without effects there is no cause.”

I’ll explain:

Have you ever tried to understand someone who has fear of commitment in relationships? I have several good friends who have the signs of this type of commitment anxiety.

The majority of them are guys.

They can not select simple things.

They discover it hard to choose on what to eat throughout a fine dining event, they can not choose between two excellent theater shows, even on what to wear in the morning.

Take my longtime friend Mike, for example, had never been involved in serious relationships, considering the fact that even back when he was in his 30’s and is a perfect marrying age for guys.

He is one of my closest good friends and had always been a bachelor with a great career and excellent income.

I believe that he has had commitment phobia in relationships.

He would never accept that idea, which in truth is another characteristic of a person who has commitment anxiety.

About 20 some years ago I had this conversation with Mike:

Me: “Have you ever had a major serious relationship before?

Mike: “Nope.” He, answered.

Me: “Why?”

Mike: “It’s due to the fact that I’m not ready to settle down”.

Me: “What are the things that made you not willing so far to settle down? I asked again.

He simply shrugged his shoulders and paused.

Mike: “It is merely since I’m afraid to dedicate to a nice woman, and I just don’t feel a ‘readiness’ within me to get married at this time. I’m scared that I may not handle it properly and she may try to control me.

Me: “Then you are one of those who hesitate of commitments or the worry of serious obligation and commitment.”

Mike: “Am I afraid of commitment? I don’t think so… “

Is having fear of commitment in relationships not healthy or healthy at all.

Commitment phobia in relationships can truly hold you back, since it is just that life needs us all to unite and be wholly committed to a world where we are all helping each other.

What I mean is, a few short years not too very long after that conversation with Mike, he met a wonderful woman, Mary.

They dated, slowly, the pace picked up, or we may say, deepened, and while both Mike and Mary now in their 40’s, decided to tie the knot.

Yes, they married, and to this day are one of the happiest couples you’ll ever meet.

The Course in Miracles goes on to further teach us that, “The cause of healing is the only Cause of everything. It has but one effect.”

Fear of Commitment

Fear of commitment in relationships might begin from childhood from which an individual suffered from distressing experience, such as separation of parents, divorce, and …

How to Plan Your Career

The Eight – Step Process

The career coaching industry has found that planning a career involves a predictable pattern. No matter whether you plan a career on your own or with the assistance of a career coaching firm you must take the following eight discrete steps. Read on to learn more.

Discovering Who You Are

If you do not know who you really are, how can you tell a prospective employer about you? How can you even know which kind of job will suit you? Answer: you can not. That is why 47% of new hires leave their jobs within 12 to 18 months of the start, even though they were eminently qualified for the position; having won the position over heavy competition. That is why you may often get the feeling at the interview that the interviewer has no idea of who you really are.

To discover who you are, you need to perform some psychological testing of yourself; AND THEN CONFIRM THAT IT IS RIGHT. Armed that way, you know if you need to be in a job where activity and urgency are key or where patience and people concerns are paramount or where detail and caution are essential or where ideas and creativity are the drivers. Some of those are you. Some are not. You must go for the jobs that cater to those personal experiences AND STAY AWAY FROM THE JOBS THAT DO NOT. Notice that we have not even talked about your skills yet. Having discovered who you are, or at least having articulated who you are, how do you tell others about it without reflecting?

Creating a Life Story that Tells the Full Picture of Who You Are

Next, you need to toss that traditional resume out of the window as quickly as possible. It is a boring laundry list that exhausts the resume readers as much as it pains you to write it. Inject life into the resume so that it displays the personality traits and strong points of you discovered in step one above, using facts, proofs, under-statements, yet excitment.

Keep this portion to one page and attach the laundry list as page two. That's it: a two-page resume that should take around 15 hours to prepare if you are to get to the root of who you really are. Such a resume will serve you forever. Future job changes will only affect a small part of the laundry list of page two.

Describing Succinctly Who You Are

With the hard work of the resume now in place and your own understanding of your personal drivers, summarize the picture of yourself with a one-paragraph biography, describing what you want and who you are. Done properly it will entice anyone who would be interested in you and will drive away anyone who should not be (thank goodness).

To go with the bio, create a single sentence that captures the essence of you like the tag line for Coke: "The pause that refreshes" or …

Silverstone British Grand Prix Winners: Sebastian Vettel – A Winning Career And Personality?

German Formula 1 driver, Sebastian Vettel has won the British Grand Prix at Silverstone twice, in 2011 and 2009. As of early 2012, he has won the title of world champion twice.

Born on 3rd July 1987, Vettel will turn 25 just a few days before competing at Silverstone, in the 2012 Formula 1 Santander British Grand Prix. How will this young F1 legend fare against the British boys, Jenson Button, Lewis Hamilton and Paul di Resta on their home circuit?

He started “training” for his career aged three and a half in a miniature kart in the yard of his German home, Heppenheim, southwest Germany. His father Norbert was a keen kart racing enthusiast in his leisure time and a carpenter by trade. Norbert and his wife, Heike, and Sebastian’s siblings, Fabian, Melanie and Stephanie could see his talent and it was made a family focal point.

British Grand Prix 2009 and 2011 And World Champion 2010 and 2011

Vettel currently holds the title of World Champion and is driving for Red Bull Racing. He has set a variety of age related records, one of which is the fact that he was the world’s youngest champion in 2010. He also holds the record of most poles in one season.

In 2009 when Vettel first won at Silverstone he made the comment that: “It’s never easy it’s a long race – you have to stay focused and keep your eyes open all the time.”

Silverstone Grand PrixVow By Vettel Considered Bad Omen For His Rivals

Before the 2011 British Grand Prix at Silverstone, Vettel had warned his rivals that he expected to dominate as he had been doing during the season. One of the UK newspapers ran a headline which said that this was considered a bad omen for his rivals.

However let’s not forget that at that time Vettel could have retained this top championship position even if he had been absent from the next 3 races. This was a remarkable situation for him to be in yet he had the maturity not be become complacent about it.

The New Schumacher?

He has been constantly compared to his fellow German Schumacher because of his concentration, driving style and how he is behind the scenes with the engineers in his team. There are a number of similarities and even though Schumacher was one of his childhood heroes, he would prefer to be seen as the new Vettel. One interesting difference between the drivers is that Vettel actually names his car.

His 2012 car is named Abbey, and as Vettel is a huge Beatles fan one could be excused for thinking that it is after Abbey Road. However when asked was this or the Abbey corner at Silverstone the inspiration for this, he said: “Neither. It’s just a cool name.”

In the early stages of the 2012 season, Vettel lashed out at Narain Karthikeyan after a collision which caused him to be relegated to 11th position. He described Karthikeyan as …

The Narcotics Officer Career

Despite depressing, it is important we remind ourselves of the dangers the drug trade leads. This allows us to look at the problem from an 'eyes wide shut' perspective. In other words, we can be mindful of the dangers when we are aware of them. Perhaps, we may even take the effective steps to make a positive difference. A career as a narcotics officer can help make such a difference.

The term "narcotics officer" can be a rather open one. There are many different types of narcotics officers that work in many different federal agencies. For those weighing their options for such a career, the best place to start would be to look towards the prime agencies that deal with narcotics crimes.

The most obvious agency would be the DEA since it thoroughly deals with drugs as its primary investigative capacity. However, the FBI, ATF, and even the US Marshals will handle tasks associated with enforcing the drug laws. How they do so may be a little different.

The US Marshals may be involved with tracking down the fugitives that are on the run for drug crimes. The FBI could invest an enormous amount of time seeking to bring a federal indictment against a mob boss for operating a drug syndicate. Such an investigation could potentially take years upon years. Such work is not for naught. Some of these lengthy investigations have brought down some of the most infamous organized crime figures in history.

The work performed by various narc officers can be highly involved and complicated. In some instances, an agent may spend a great time in the field performing arrests. Some officers may even go on deep undercover missions. Then, there are those that perform a tremendous amount of investigation work at their desk. And some might lay in wait for tips to help further investigations or launch arrests.

For many, the way in which you would launch your potential narcotics officer career would begin with acquiring the appropriate level of education. A High School diploma is a must. However, an advanced college degree is certainly helpful to further your hiring options.

What can your degree be in?

There is generous variety available in terms of the options you can explore. Degrees in law, criminal justice, and communications are commonly those most associated with this profession. Yet, there really is no definitive single degree that is a "must". Those with degrees in such areas as diverse as language studies to physical education have landed careers as a narc officer.

While there are many different agencies that serve different purposes, it is wise to apply for as many different agencies as possible. Such narcotics officer positions are highly competitive and it is vital to keep as many employment options open as possible.

Ultimately, if you were to truly answer what a narcotics officer career entails, the answer would be that such a career entailing keeping the public safe. No matter what agency you would work for and in what …

Computer Aided Drafting Schools – Career Preparation Options

Preparing for a career in computer aided drafting is centered on the ability to understand how to use the industry's technology. Computers and their software are allowing professionals to take the concepts of designers and create detailed blueprints that represent the final product. Training is essential when pursuing a career and voluntary colleges offer students several educational programs that prepare them for the field. Career preparation options are available through computer aided drafting schools.

Training inside volunteer college results in completing a certificate or associate's degree program. Students learn to become professionals that experiment with new ideas without spending money on replicas of products and buildings. Training is focused on developing the ability to draw models that allow them to detect any flaws in design, which lets them make improvements. The goal in using computer aided drafting software is to speed up the time it takes to generate blueprints of projects and make the building process more efficient. Obtaining an education is critical to developing the correct skills to succeed professionally. Students can begin training by choosing colleges to enroll in that offer the programs that will prepare them for their careers.

Entering voluntary colleges give students the opportunity to complete programs at the certificate and associate's degree level. Training varies significantly between colleges so students need to research their options before committing to programs. Entry-level positions are available to students that complete certificate programs. Intensive technical courses are completed when students work through associates degree programs. Training at these levels will last approximately six months to two years. The education obtained at the associate's degree level is more comprehensive and prepares students to enter many professionals relating to engineering, structural design, and drafting.

Curriculums will vary but students take a wide variety of courses that focus on theory and practical experience. Inside certificate programs students train to understand how to use CAD software to develop technical sketches that illustrate two and three-dimensional models. The ability to spend more time on modifying designs is gained because the technology automates repetitive tasks that take longer when completing blueprints by hand. Many colleges have programs that focus on CAD in general and specific areas of design. Students can complete programs in areas such as mechanical, structural, piping, or landscaping design. These programs are best for students that have particular careers in mind.

Hands-on training is a key character inside programs at the associate's level of training. Students work through courses that develop their mechanical and architectural drafting skills. Problem-solving methods are learned in training because high levels of modifications are necessary when working out the kinks in a design plan. Students can expect to take numerous courses focused on drafting and design concepts in both levels of training. Courses can include:

  • Electronic Drafting
  • Building Design
  • Residential Construction

Students are able to take their own skills and enter careers as mechanical drafters, structural designers, and engineering aides. Career advancement can be gained by furthering education within bachelor's degree programs.

It's Never Too Late To Start A Second Career

We had a celebratory lunch yesterday with my parents as my mum is turning 73 on Tuesday. My mum is still healthy albeit it does not hear well even with a hearing aid.

My mum started her second career about a decade ago after having been a housewife almost all her life. In her younger years, before the children came along she was a hair dresser. I remember being the subject of her styling experiments when I was young.

Today, she is back in the hair dressing business. But she no longer stands behind customers styling her hair though she knows the business very well. She is now the 'Pantry Director' a title her much younger collections have lovingly given her. In her 'office' she makes some kick-axx (pardon my language!) Iced lemon tea. And she is so well known for it that many customers of the salon specifically ask for her iced lemon tea when they are there.

She loves her time there and being around much younger collections, most of them young enough to be her grandchildren and she finds pleasure in serving the customers and talking shop with the youngsters.

Being in the salon for six days a week, she gets her daily exercise walking up and down the salon serving customers and being updated on the latest trends. On many occasions we have toyed with the idea that maybe it would be better for her to stop work, but we realized that it is the work that is helping her to stay healthy and have more zest for life.

Too often people do not give themselves second chances, thinking that if they have reached a certain age they should not be working anymore. But for some people it is through working and serving that gives them more meaning in life. For my mum it is her way of feeling financially empowered.

It is never too late to start a second career, or a career for that matter! Life is about constantly learning anyway and if we settle quickly into a state of contentment without any motivation for more, then life has eaten us. We are no longer in charge of our lives.

I am proud of my mother for her path towards financial empowerment. How much longer her career as Pantry Director will last we do not know. But as long as it is keeping her healthy she will be there six days a week.

If you happen to be at the Next Salon at Holland Village (Singapore) do say hello to her. …
