Photo Book Stores: What a Racket

If you are in college right now you are probably ready to go spend a few hundred dollars on books for this coming semester. Hopefully you have noticed how expensive these books are. The college book store's prices are high! The worst part about it is that they buy books back from students for next to nothing, and they sell them for triple what they paid for them.

Another tactic used by the book stores to make more money is to sell the new volume of the required text. This means that the students who have the old volumes are stuck with a book that they can not sell, and the next round of students must buy the ridiculously over-priced new edition. This usually happens without warning and is not known until the school's book store refuses to buy back certain books. If you are lucky your teacher will base his or her course on material that is covered in both old and new editions, and you can pick up an old edition from a friend for a relatively cheap price.

Some college students care enough to get their books somewhere else like EBay or Amazon. Other students just can not refuse the low cash offer for their valuable books at the end of the term. Students could save more money if they use some kind of book exchange service that is non-profit. Although for the time being sites like Amazon and EBay will suffice. College students need to utilize their networks to do something about getting ripped off every semester. …

Five Steps to Finding the Best Educational Consultant for Your Student

If you type the phrase "Educational Consultant" into Google, you will get over eight million results. That's a pretty daunting place to start a search when you need to find the best individual to help your student achieve success. Whether you're looking for a consultant to help you navigate the maze of special education requirements and Individualized Education Plans or you're a student from another country trying to find the best college in the United States for your field of study, a good educational consultant can be the difference between success and frustration.

So, once you've narrowed down your selection from eight million to a few consultants that you are considering, how do you make that final decision?

Below are five things to consider when trying to find the right consultant.

Licensed Education Psychologist

A licensed educational psychologist is typically a master's level practitioner who is licensed by the Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS). This is a license that is unique to California. The requirement for an LEP is a master's degree and proof of 3 years of working in the educational system. When you find that someone is a licensed educational psychologist, you know that they have the experience and education to handle the multitude of challenges you may be faced with during the consultation process.

Experience Working With Schools and Individuals

Working with your student's school is a critical part of most issues that require involvement from an educational consultant. Seeing that this is such an important part of the overall process, it's best to find a consultant who has worked in schools as a counselor or school psychologist. When you are researching or interviewing a consultant, ask them wherever they have this type of experience. If they do it means that they most likely have in-depth familiarity of all steps of the process from both sides of the equation, what tests and judgments are best, what schools look for in certain situations, etc.

Experience in area of need / specialty – (admissions, IEP, Special Education, etc.)

One of the first questions you should ask a prospective consultant is: "Can you give us an overview of your experience dealing with __________________?" Then you can ask them to take through the process step-by-step so you can get an understanding of what you're up against. This will serve two purposes: 1.) it will educate you to the process; and 2.) it will give you some insight into the consultant's true understanding of how things will play out. If they can take you through the millions off the top of their head without hesitation, it usually means it's not their first rodeo.

Knowledge of Testing / Assessments

Whatever you're trying to get into a top US college or you need to find out if your student qualifies for special educational accommodations under state or Federal laws, assessments are a large part of the process. Sometimes the consultant will be administering these assessments and other times that they will be reviewing the …

Free Massage Education

Many people wonder how they can get a reliable and effective massage education. Some would like to be able to massage their partner, or just massage friends they know. Others would like to be able to massage their husband or wife. Others still would like to be massage therapist, or as massage therapists learn more about massage and its different modalities! How can I learn massage the inexpensive way?

Well, as a massage therapist we have to pass a twenty four hour course every two years to keep out massage license. These classes can be in any modality we choose, deep tissue, myofascial trigger point release, reflexology, ayurveda massage, thai massage, tuina, amma, californian massage, esalen massage, medical massage, craniosacral. Some courses are live hands-on and really you get the most training this way and learn the most as you can practice the new skills you are learning on real people. But I also found that many LMT's (licensed massage therapists) order videos to watch at home to practice and then they can pass a test online where you are asked a series of questions and need a certain number of correct answers to pass and get your certification in whatever modality you are taking!

The videos usually go with a books which is most of the times about 30 pages long and ends with a test where you can test your learning, then when you are ready, after having practiced the exercises on a live person, a friend of yours, or family member, you can go online to their website and pass the real test, where you are required to have at least 60 percent right answers. The state of Florida require 24 hours of CEU's every two years. …

Private Education Loan Consolidation – 3 Tips

Whether you attended a public or a private college or university, you probably owe tens of thousands of dollars or more in student loan debt. If you are like millions of other graduates, you chose to fund your education with private student loans.

Private student loans differ from federal loans in that the private loans are issued by private banks and other lending institutions. Private loans may be offered at variable or fixed rates and come with a range of possible repayment periods (terms) like 5, 10 or more years.

If you have multiple private loans, you may be interested in consolidating your loans into a single private consolidation loan.

Advantages To Loan Consolidation

The main benefit of consolidation is that that it gives you the opportunity in most cases to reduce your monthly payment obligations. Being able to save money each month on student loans offers a huge benefit to graduates who hold a lot of debt. Most graduates – especially those in their 20s and early 30s – are busy trying to pay their monthly expenses while building a small nest egg. High loan payments but a serious damper on that goal.

Another benefit of consolidation is the opportunity to simplify one's financial life. Having to make multiple payments to different banks each month – which are due on different dates and in different amounts – is no piece of cake to manage.

Comparing Private And Federal Consolidation Options

Note that if your current student loans are federal loans, you should opt for federal consolidation. Otherwise, private consolidation is the way to go.

3 Tips For Private Education Loan Consolidation

If you are considering consolidation, here are 3 tips for you to consider:

1. Shop The Best Bank Rate: Just shaving a point or two off of your interest rate can save you a lot of money in your future consolidation loan payments. It is always worth it to spend a bit more time now shopping the rates from multiple lenders before settling upon one.

2. Check Each Company Out: Do research on each lender to make sure they are viable and represent a company you would want to do business with. For example, ask these questions: Do they have the ability to service your loans? Do they allow for easy online application? Are their repayments plans simple and easy to understand? Do they offer any benefits to borrowers who pay on time? Keep meticulous notes about each lender you evaluate.

3. Get The Payment Terms You Want: Before contacting lenders, make sure you know what your idea payment terms are. Remember: a longer term of, say 20 or 30 years means lower monthly payments now but much more paid over the life of the loan in interest costs. Tip: choose the shortest term possible while still leaving you with a monthly payment you can afford now.

Follow these 3 tips to a more successful loan consolidation. …

Requirements for UK University Level Foundation Courses

If you are a student who is not a resident of a European Union country, then there are certain requirements you must know about in order to attend foundation courses at a United Kingdom facility. Here is a general outline of those standards that must be met at most educational institutions offering degree programs to foreign nationals.

Government Requirements

Any international student wishing to attend a school in the UK must obtain the appropriate visa. New this year to the process is a points system instituted by the government.

Tier 4 is the level of points applicable to students. As part of their visa application, prospective students must include the sponsor license number of a properly accredited and licensed university. Be sure you have this number in place before submitting your visa application.

University Requirements

First and foremost you will be required to have a minimum number of General Certificates of Secondary Education (GCSE). Usually these must include courses in English and Mathematics, for any number of degree programs, although there are some equivalency standards which may apply in your specific case. Some universities will also ask for a certificate of your secondary school completion.

Many times there is a minimum age requirement, as well. Most universities accepting international students ask that students are at least 17 years old. This is no doubt due to a certain level of maturity required to attend an institution of higher learning in a foreign land.

For students whose first language is other than English, an optimal score on the International English Language Testing System is a must. Some universities offer their own internal testing system if this requirement has not been met. Support for further study in the English language is usually provided by the university foundation course.

About University Foundation Courses

University foundation courses (UFCs) are designed to give a student unfamiliar with certain concepts and terminology the opportunity to develop a further understanding and the necessary skills to complete the coursework for various degrees. A UFC generally lasts three to four terms and replace the matriculation requirement that students reach A level to register for courses and begin their academic career.

There are certain core modules which will be taught in a UFC. These modules will relate directly to a student's proposed degree coursework. Instruction is usually accomplished through traditional university lectures, tutorials, group studies, and individual coursework. End of course examinations will determine the student's final mark.

Students who complete the foundation program must do so with a minimum acceptable grade and the expectation that English language skills will have been further developed.

For students living outside the EU who wants to attend a university in the UK, taking university foundation courses is an excellent way to fast track to degree coursework. These classes teach more than just the basics; they provide an extended orientation into the country itself and a way for foreign nationals to feel welcomed and accepted before plunging directly into studies. …
